About
PII in the sky (pronounced “pie in the sky”) has one simple mission: to provide US residents with actionable information and tools for protecting their Personal Identifiable Information (PII) from prying eyes. We do this by providing to-do lists for you to complete. Your privacy is your responsibility. No company or government body will protect you if you don’t take proactive action. Start going through the to-do list today, starting from the basics.
The advice provided here strives to balance security and usability. Everything is done online nowadays: bank accounts, tax returns, shopping, entertainment, and on and on. We can't unplug and go off the grid, and so we must find a way to reduce the threat posed by identity thieves and other criminals, some funded by state actors with vast resources, advanced tools, and plenty of experience breaching network and software security. We made every effort to outline straightforward measures explained and reasoned in plain language.
In today's developed world (and increasingly, in the developing world), it’s impossible to function without participating in the "data economy." Like it or not, if you're a US resident, your PII is stored, traded, and transferred every day by companies and government agencies without your permission. There is no way to opt-out for good. The best you can do is limit your exposure, and this is exactly what this site is all about.
Privacy Statement
PII in the Sky is a labor of love provided free of charge as a service to fellow human beings. We don’t collect any of your data or track you in any way, with one exception: we use Google Analytics to track website traffic.
